https://github.com/jdodds/aif[AIF^] (classic) was written entirely in bash, required compilation, wasn't flexible enough, and is obsolete/no longer maintained. The client (`aifclient.py`) is a single script and gets its configuration from a combination of an XML file and kernel paramaters (which tell it where to find the former and how to access it).
